Liverpool eyeing reunion with attacking star: Should the Reds go down that road again?

When Philippe Coutinho left Liverpool in the 2018 January transfer window, he sought a transfer away from the club to win the Champions League. However, in just over a year’s time, his former club have won Europe’s most prestigious trophy, while he had an indifferent season at Barcelona.

Coutinho was out of form for a large chunk of the season, and couldn’t influence the team as many hoped he would.

The Brazilian moved to Barcelona for a fee of £105 million from Liverpool, but there is a possibility that he might return to Merseyside, as per Le10 Sport.

The 2018-19 Champion League winners are reportedly interested in bringing back the Brazilian to Anfield ahead of next season.

Coutinho is currently representing Brazil in the Copa America where he revealed that there could be a chance of him leaving the Catalan club before the start of next season.

Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United were linked with a move for the Brazilian, but it now seems like Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is interested in re-signing Coutinho.

The Brazilian played for the English side for five years, making over 200 appearances for the side and scoring 54 goals, which earned him a move to Barcelona. He has been lacklustre at Barcelona after a promising start to his career at the Spanish giants as he started just 22 games for the club in the 2018-19 season.

Should Liverpool go down that road again?

Coutinho was a world-class player when he was at Liverpool, especially the last few years of his Liverpool career, but it hasn’t turned out to be the same at Barcelona. But re-signing the Brazilian once again would cause more problems than fix any issues that Liverpool have at the moment.

Liverpool have a strong starting lineup, and the inclusion of Coutinho would disrupt the team as they have great understanding between each other on the pitch.

Coutinho would come at a high fee and if he is signed, Klopp will have to play him in every game that he is available, but where would the Brazilian play?

Klopp already has quite a few central midfielders to fill the three spots in midfield, while Sadio Mane has been in sensational form on the left too.

Liverpool should rather invest in strengthening areas that need an extra player, especially at left-back and maybe a striker and a central defender.
