Manchester United superstar closing in on an exit: How the club should react

Serie A champions Juventus are keen to back their former star Paul Pogba from Manchester United ahead of the 2019-20 season. 

Fabio Paratici, the Italian club’s sporting director, is set to have discussions with Manchester United over the French star’s move back to Italy, as per Sky Sports.

The report states that Juventus and Manchester United could include Portuguese right-back Joao Cancelo in the transfer talks, a player who has been on Manchester United and Manchester City’s radar in recent times.

Pogba returned to Manchester United in 2016, after spending his early football years at the English club. 

Following four seasons with Juventus, the French midfielder joined the Red Devils for a club record fee of £89.3 million.

The Frenchman was United’s top scorer and assist maker in the 2018-19 season, but it seems that he is unhappy at Manchester United, which came to light after his very public bust-up with former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The midfielder has been on Real Madrid’s wish-list with the Spanish club’s manager Zinedine Zidane speaking in glowing terms of Pogba, but it remains to be seen if Madrid have the finances to make the deal happen after confirming the signature of a few players for big sums of money.

What should Solskjaer do if Pogba is sold?

Losing Paul Pogba would be a huge blow to Manchester United as he is possibly one of the best players in the club, currently. The French midfielder can be a match-winner on his day, but he hasn’t had the influence that Manchester United fans would have hoped for.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to freshen up the squad by adding young players to the team and also underline the style of football that Manchester United have to play in the future.

Manchester United need a completely need midfield with the departure of Ander Herrera and the potential exit of Paul Pogba, as Nemanja Matic and Fred have been rather underwhelming with their performances.

Scott McTominay was a bright spot in the Red Devils’ dreary season, and Solskjaer should play the youngster in more games, while also buy at least two more midfielders – a deep-lying playmaker in the mould of Michael Carrick, as well as a goal-scoring midfielder. 

James Garner is another Manchester United youngster who is touted to have a bright future – Solskjaer should keep the 18-year-old in and around the first-team squad for the 2019-20 season.
