Ex Tottenham man feels Liverpool could sign Eriksen: An unstoppable midfield with him?

In the 2018-19 season, Liverpool seemed to have quality players all across the park who stepped up at the right time.

Jurgen Klopp’s side surprised everyone with their phenomenal form throughout the season, and one area of the pitch where the Reds performed well was the midfield, led by captain Jordan Henderson.

Former Tottenham Hotspur player Jamie O’Hara, however, feels that the Reds could strengthen further in midfield, and should sign Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen, who revealed recently that he wants a new challenge and wants to leave Spurs.

While speaking to Sky Sports, O’Hara said that Eriksen is the kind of player Liverpool currently need. Eriksen has been linked with a move to Real Madrid after the end of the season, while Manchester United were also keen on signing the Dane.

The Danish midfielder has played six seasons for the Lilywhites, and has become one of the key men under Mauricio Pochettino, guiding the team to the Champions League final. 

Eriksen has made 277 appearances for the side and has scored 66 goals for the club, winning the Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Year twice. 

The Dane played 51 games in all competitions in the 2018-19 season, scoring 10 goals and making 17 assists from a midfield role for Spurs.

Would Eriksen make Liverpool’s midfield unstoppable?

Liverpool have four quality central midfielders in Fabinho, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, and captain Jordan Henderson, while the likes of James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can also play in midfield.

The addition of Christian Eriksen to the Liverpool squad would give manager Jurgen Klopp a host of options in the three-man midfield as all the midfielders offer something different.

Eriksen has been a creative genius in midfield, racking up plenty of assists and goals each season. He would make Liverpool a scary proposition as he could unlock defences with his passing and vision, combined with the world-class attacking trio of Mane, Firmino, and Salah.

However, it remains to be seen if Spurs would sell to a direct rival like Liverpool, who they faced in the 2018-19 Champions League final. The prospect looks even less likely to happen considering Liverpool will have to deal with someone like Daniel Levy, if they truly are serious about signing Eriksen.

It will also be interesting to see how Klopp would shuffle his midfielders around and keep everyone happy as the existing midfielders deserve to be in the first team after their fine 2018-19 season.
