Arsenal are keen to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, it has been reported.
The Gunners are readying a bid for the £9 million-rated midfielder, will have to compete with Borussia Dortmund and Juventus for the 18-year old as per Football Insider.
Szoboszlai is one of the hottest properties in football at the moment, and considering the Gunners’ low summer budget, he isn’t a bad option at all, even though he is still very young.
The north London side have been long-term admirers of Szoboszlai, and are set to test RB Salzburg’s resolve with a bid.
Dominik Szoboszlai: Profile
Szoboszlai spent his youth career at four different clubs; Videoton, Fonix-GOLD, MTK Budapest and Liefering and eventually, he made it into the Liefering senior team.
His impressive performances for Liefering led to a move to RB Salzburg in the January transfer window of 2018, and he spent the majority of the previous campaign playing for their reserve side.
Despite that, he mustered 3 goals and 4 assists in 16 Austrian Bundesliga appearances last season, and finished the campaign with 11 goals and 10 assists in 29 games across all competitions.
Although he is an 18-year-old, he has represented Hungarian national side regularly after making his debut earlier this year.
Pros and cons of signing Szoboszlai
Arsenal do need a central midfielder after the departure of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus. Obviously, it would be hard to replace the Welshman with the budget Arsenal have, but Szoboszlai could add more depth to the Gunners midfield.
He is a clever mover of the ball, and has a wide range passing. Some of his passes for Salzburg last season in the attacking third caught the eye as he showed incredible composure to chip and take out entire defences to find a teammate, or even slide a neat through pass.
Szoboszlai’s ability to find the back of the net from the edge of the penalty areas is also a unique skill, as he doesn’t panic, and often tries to place his shots.
The Hungarian international is a decent playmaker but his physicality is certainly his weakness. Still only, 18, he won’t make it into the Arsenal team regularly, but he does have the potential to be a future star, and can be a good long-term acquisition.
