Leganes striker Youssef En-Nesyri, who moved from Malaga last summer, has been strongly linked with Premier League giants Arsenal.
According to a report by Assahifa, the Gunners have made a formal offer to make En-Nesyri move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and the process of negotiations are expected to commence shortly.
Under the tutelage of Unai Emery, Arsenal had a decent start to their season and had a great chance of securing Champions League football. However, they succumbed right at the business end of the season and fell apart.
Firstly, they won just one of their last five league games and finished fifth in the Premier League and then, they were battered 4-1 by their arch-rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final.
The Gunners need to strengthen as Danny Welbeck will leave the club once his contract expires. Emery will be short of personnel in the attacking area. In such a situation, someone like En-Nesyri could be a good option for the London based outfit.
However, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to rope him into their ranks as Schalke, Borussia Dortmund, Malaga and Real Betis are also believed to be interested according to a report by the Marca.
Is Youssef En-Nesyri worth the fuss?
Although Arsenal have two formidable forwards in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, Emery doesn’t have the luxury of back-up players.
Ever since the departure of Olivier Giroud to Chelsea, Arsenal have lacked the aerial prowess which the Frenchman used to provide. En-Nesyri is a strong centre-forward, formidable in the air, and can offer a plan B.
Having started his youth career at Malaga, En-Nesyri played for their senior side before moving on to Leganes. He has also represented the Moroccan national side and featured in the World Cup last year for the team.
The 22-year-old scored 9 goals in 31 La Liga appearances last term, and was the top scorer for his club as they managed to avoid relegation. He is a rough diamond but can be chiselled by someone like Emery
It has been reported by the Daily Star that he could depart for just £9million, and for that fee, he could prove to be a decent addition for Arsenal.
