Arsenal and Aston Villa among clubs who should target this wantaway PL winner – Opinion

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph is close to leaving the club, it has been reported.

Pep Guardiola’s camp will listen to offers for Delph after they complete the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri in what would be a club-record transfer fee of £63 million, the Daily Mail have claimed.

With Ilkay Gundogan set to stay, and Kevin de Bruyne returning to fitness, Delph might see very little playing time next season at Etihad should he stay.

Signed from Aston Villa back in 2015 for £8million, the 29-year-old managed merely 13 starts in the previous campaign. In order to be in Gareth Southgate’s plans for England in Euro 2020, Delph needs to play more regularly.

With the likelihood of his availability at a reduced price, here are three clubs who should make a move to make him sign above the dotted line.

Arsenal

Following the departure of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus, Arsenal have a void in the midfield region. The Gunners need versatile players who they can sign, and Delph is not a bad option at all.

Delph is a versatile player, and can fill in at left-back if needed, another area where the Gunners might need reinforcements considering how inconsistent Sead Kolasinac was last season.

Besides, the Gunners have a shoestring budget to operate with this season, and someone like Delph could come in handy for them.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa got promoted to the Premier League after their win in the play-offs final over Derby County.

Although Dean Smith got the best put of most players in the squad, the gaffer will need proven Premier League players, and perhaps a reunion with Delph isn’t a bad option.

Delph excelled during his time at the Villa Park, but left the Villans in a controversial manner. Nonetheless, a reunion with his former club could potentially be beneficial for all parties involved.

Galatasaray

Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are reportedly pursuing Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega, but if they fail to lure him to Turk Telekom Stadium, they could pursue Delph’s signature.

He has already been linked with the Turkish outfit, and they could tempt Delph by offering him regular game time to keep himself in proper shape, as well as Champions League football, which would be hard to reject.
