The 2018/19 Champions League finalist, Tottenham Hotspur, are keen on adding to their roster before the new season kicks-off in August.
According to a report on The Sun, Mauricio Pochettino has urged the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to break the bank after spending zero money in the past 18 months.
The last time Levy opened his chequebook was way back in January 2018 when the Lilywhites signed Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain on the deadline day of the winter transfer window.
Spurs must invest heavily in the summer if they plan to compete against the European heavyweights and end their excruciating wait for silverware next season.
Let’s look at the three players who have the potential to elevate the north London club to the next level. These are the players Spurs should look at signing if they decide to go all out in their quest for silverware.
Tanguy Ndombele
The 22-year-old is a versatile player who features as a box to box midfielder and could also be used in Pochettino’s (4-2-3-1) double pivot in the centre of the pitch.
Ndombele’s technical prowess and physical stature allow the Frenchman to carry the ball forward to create opportunities for his teammates as well as score goals himself.
The Argentine manager, who over the years has developed a reputation of nurturing young talent, seems like the ideal person to develop the Lyon man’s potential to the core.
The signing of the young right-footed midfielder would be a major boost to the north London club seeing his all-round nature which could help fill the sizeable boots of the Belgian Mousa Dembele who left for China in January.
Giovani Lo Celso
Lo Celso is another versatile midfielder who has appeared on Spurs’ radar. The Argentine playmaker can play multiple roles — in central midfield or further up the pitch.
Be it his ability to glide past defenders using his pace and dribbling skills, ability to hold on to the ball in difficult situations or his tackling prowess, the 23-year-old excels at all of the above.
His work rate makes him a force to reckon with in the midfield and with speculation around Christian Eriksen’s exit increasing by the hour, Lo Celso could be the next big name under his compatriot Pochettino.
Callum Wilson
The striking options available at Pochettino’s disposal have always been a much talked about topic for the fans and pundits. Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente haven’t done enough to make a case for themselves and Spurs nearly paid the price last term when English superstar Harry Kane was sidelined because of an injury.
Callum Wilson can act as the perfect backup for the 25-year-old Kane and can even provide an option for a front two to Pochettino. The Bournemouth striker possesses a knack for intelligent positioning and finishing in the box.
The 27-year-old’s key passes, through balls and his effectiveness on the counter-attack, makes him one of the biggest threats for the Cherries in the final third something he can carry into the set-up at Tottenham.
The addition of the Cherries striker would provide the much-needed impetus to the squad increasing the depth and also providing credible competition to Kane.
