Wolverhampton Wanderers are likely to move in for Manchester United’s defender Marcos Rojo as part of their plan to increase their squad depth for next season.
According to a report from the BirminghamMail, Manchester United are willing to let go of Rojo for a mere £6m.
Rojo was linked with Wolves a year ago, but Wolves weren’t willing to pay north of £20m, which was the asking price then.
The Argentine defender has had an injury-stricken year, and started only six games for Manchester United in the recently concluded season.
Rojo under Nuno Espirito Santo: A Hit or Miss?
Rojo is a versatile player who mainly features in the centre-back position, but can also slot into the full-back role if necessary.
With Wolves set to feature in Europe next season, Nuno Espirito Santo would love to have a player with such flexibility in his dressing room.
Europa League qualifiers will be knocking on the Wanderers’ doorstep even before the next season kicks-off, so the gaffer will face the challenge of keeping his players fresh for the domestic season, and that’s where squad depth can play a significant role.
With a fixture filled August, Rojo could be a key signing for the Wanderers, who will look to avoid doing a Burnley next season. Nuno generally deploys his team in a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-2-1 formation with fullbacks playing a vital role in Wolves’ success.
The Argentine is a strong defender who never shies away from a tackle, although his discipline on the pitch could become an issue for his team. Rojo’s physicality, and passing are some of his key attributes which the Portuguese manager could exploit.
The Manchester United defender is Premier League proven and his set-piece ability could prove to be fruitful on any given day. His goal against Nigeria to take Argentina through to the knockout stage last summer in the World Cup also highlighted his technical prowess as a defender.
Rojo’s flexibility could prove vital for squad rotation and if he could return to his form under a new manager in a different setup, he could prove to be a shrewd addition to the squad.
The Argentine’s price tag also remains a bonus for the Black Country outfit.

If United are prepared to let him go with their defence in such disarray, why would he be good enough for Wolves?
Let someone else have him who need a bit-part player.
