Wolves ready to rival West Ham in pursuit of La Liga midfielder: How he will fit in?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are ready to rival West Ham United in the pursuit of Victor Camarasa, it has been claimed.

According to Daily Mail, Wolves are monitoring the situation of Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa.

The Spaniard impressed on loan at Cardiff City in the 2018/19 campaign, but couldn’t save the Bluebirds from relegation.

It is believed that the Spanish outfit are contemplating shipping out Camarasa out once again, with Wolves being one of the sides interested in his services. However, they could face stiff competition from West Ham.

Victor Camarasa: How will he fit in at Wolves?

There are many ways Wolves will be able to utilise Camarasa in central midfield. The Spaniard is a versatile midfielder, as he can, aside from preferred central midfield role, also feature in attacking midfield as well as right midfield and even in defensive midfield.

That means Nuno Espirito Santo will be able to deploy Camarasa just in behind Raul Jimenez and alongside Diogo Jota in a 3-4-2-1 set-up.

Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho are the two guaranteed starters in the double-pivot. But, there have been many occasions where Nuno has opted to line up with a three-man midfield this past season. The Portuguese mastermind mostly started with Leander Dendoncker, but the addition of Camarasa will offer him more choices in midfield.

The Real Betis star has the ability to move forward and create chances in the final third, which means he can also serve as a back-up or even compete with Neves for a place in the first-team.

However, deploying him in the attacking midfield slot alongside Jota could be the best option. The Spaniard is an excellent crosser of the ball, which could be useful given the aerial prowess of Raul Jimenez. He can, therefore, shift into a wider position, and whip in crosses into the box.

In fact, Camarasa has averaged 1.6 key passes per game, almost half of which have come from crosses. In addition, he is threat from long-range as well, having averaged almost one shot from outside the box per game during the 2018/19 campaign.

And the fact that he also likes to track back and help out the defence makes him a tailor-made fit for Espirito Santo’s tactical philosophy, which often requires the players to diligently perform their defensive duties. Hence, going after Camarasa is a smart decision by Wolves as they aim to compete for the European places next season as well.
