Liverpool legend feels this player should be sold: Should the Reds give him a chance?

Liverpool‘s phenomenal season could end on a high if they beat Tottenham in the Champions League final. Following the final, the Reds will hope to strengthen their squad to go once again and compete with Manchester City in the Premier League next season.

One player who may not be a part of the Liverpool squad next season might be Belgian striker Divock Origi, who has had a bit-part role to play in the season.

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol believes that Origi should be let go in the summer and that the Merseyside club should buy a quality striker to replace him.

“In Divock Origi’s case, I think he has to go. From a Liverpool point of view, they can’t let him go until they’ve got a replacement in,” Nicol was quoted as saying by the Express.

“They’re pretty thin on the ground when it comes to their forward players, or especially front players with the quality needed. I’m thinking he’ll go.

“I think Liverpool have been looking around for a replacement for some time, and I think he’ll go.

“If you’re going to leave a club, leave them something to remember. And did he ever.”

Origi has made just 20 appearances in all competitions, most of which have been from the bench. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has picked Roberto Firmino to play as the main striker for most of the season, while Mohamed Salah has also played as the lone striker, and Daniel Sturridge has had an even smaller role than Origi this year.

The Merseyside club do not have any other strikers to call upon if Firmino does get injured, which has led to many pundits suggesting that Klopp should sign a top-class striker in the summer.

Should Liverpool give Origi another year?

Liverpool are currently very thin in the striker’s department with Sturridge’s contract set to expire in the summer.

Origi hasn’t made a big impact except for the few goals that he has scored, but Liverpool should not let him leave without signing a backup striker. 19-year-old Rhian Brewster, who is highly rated, has come through the Liverpool ranks and is one for the future, but it is too early to put him in the deep end.

The Belgian has had quite a few seasons to adapt to the Premier League, but his performances have shown that he may not be cut out for this fantastic Liverpool side that are flying.

If Liverpool do sign another striker, like Paulo Dybala, who they have been linked to, or Timo Werner, they should let go of Origi, and push Brewster into the first-team.
