West Ham United linked with a move for Brazilian targetman: Good fit under Pellegrini

West Ham United are likely to move in for Club Brugge’s Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes, who has shown an interest to play in the Premier League.

According to a report from the Mirror, Wesley has caught the attention of a number of clubs across Europe with his performances.

The Hammers might face some competition from the likes of Newcastle United and Lazio, who are also interested in Wesley.

The 22-year-old signed for the Belgian side in the winter of 2016, and has a running contract until 2023 which he extended last summer.

Wesley has been in good form for the club, having made 27 goal contributions in 48 appearances across all competitions, with two of his goals coming against AS Monaco, one in each leg in the group stages of the Champions League this season.

Wesley Moraes under Manuel Pellegrini – A good match

Wesley is a 6ft 3in centre-forward who is deadly in front of the goal. His physical presence, positioning and clinical finishing from in and around the box remain key features in his locker as the target man up front.

Brazilian players do have certain flair about them. The country has a history of producing world-class talents and more often than not, those talents have fared well in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old striker has a winner’s mentality already lifting five trophies (3 League titles and 2 cups) in his short career so far. Manuel Pellegrini who deploys his side in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-1-4-1 formation which then forms up a 4-5-1 shape during the defensive phase of the game can certainly use a target man like Wesley upfront.

The Brazilian is also likely to develop a relationship with his compatriot Felipe Anderson. Anderson is another Brazilian who has already become a fan-favourite at the London Stadium after an impressive debut season with the Hammers.

Exhibiting such quality on a football pitch at the tender age of 22, Wesley can take his game to the next level under Pellegrini.

Strikers like Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez have misfired time for the Hammers, and with Marko Arnautovic’s future uncertain, the Brazilian could very well become the new face of the Hammers attack.

Wesley’ move to West Ham sounds like a good addition to the squad, and with the age and price tag working in the club’s favour, a move remains likely to happen.
