The Championship has always been a breeding ground for up and coming British talent. And in recent years, the influx of youth players in the English second division has been immense. As a result, a lot of young players have earned themselves a big-money move to Premier League after initially impressing in the Championship.
In this article, we will pick out three Championship players, who could bag a move to the English top flight in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Che Adams
Birmingham City forward Che Adams is destined for a big-money move in the summer after a fruitful campaign so far. He has scored 22 goals while mustering five assists – making him one of the most productive attackers in the Championship this season.
His exploits in front of goal have helped Birmingham stay clear of the relegation zone. But with the Blues facing a difficult next season, a move away from St. Andrew’s in the summer could make sense for Adams.
Adams’ pace and dynamism coupled with his versatility in attack could be useful for any mid-table Premier League outfit. Southampton, Leicester City and Everton are among the clubs interested in the 22-year-old, who is more than ready to take the next step in his career.
Jack Grealish
Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to a top Premier League club for a long time now. This season’s Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs interested in his services and given the way the Lilywhites have struggled with their lack of depth in midfield especially in the Premier League, the addition of Grealish could make a world of sense.
The 23-year-old has matured into a capable central midfielder, who can not only circulate possession but also create chances in the final third. In addition, he is quite versatile too, as he can easily operate in the deep-lying playmaker role – making him a tailor-made fit for a club like Spurs.
However, Mauricio Pochettino could face stiff competition from West Ham United, who are also reportedly interested in Grealish this summer.
Much of the above depends on Villa’s fate in the playoffs though where they will be competing with West Bromwich Albion over the next 7 days.
Dean Henderson
Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan to Sheffield United, is regarded as one of the best young English goalkeepers at the moment.
The 22-year-old has impressed for the Blades this season, making 46 appearances, during which he has kept an impressive 21 clean sheets. As a result, he has attracted the interest of Sheffield United, who are now keen to secure his services permanently this summer.
But, considering Henderson’s performances as well as the potential he has shown this season, he can be an asset to any mid-table Premier League club if he chooses not to make his stay permanent at Sheffield, who incidentally will be playing in the top-tier in the 2019-20 season.
And with uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s long-term future at Manchester United, a return to Old Trafford is also a possibility for Henderson next season.
