Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Leeds United’s 18-year-old forward Jack Clarke in an attempt to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Spurs will have to pay £20m if they want to bring Jack Clarke to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer. The Lilywhites could face some competition from Crystal Palace who also seem interested to attain the services of the 18-year-old.
The English winger has impressed this season in the Championship and has 4 goal contributions in 25 appearances across all competitions. Clarke featured mainly from the bench and started only 5 games netting the ball on two occasions.
Jack Clarke under Mauricio Pochettino: Another promising youngster to groom
Clarke is a versatile operator who predominantly features on the wings and possesses the ability to switch to either flank over the course of the 90 minutes. The teenage sensation broke into the first team squad at the age of 17 and has drawn the attention of the big Premier League clubs inside a year which speaks volumes of his potential.
The Leeds attacker is majestic on the ball when it comes to dribbling. He uses his pace and body balance to dribble past defenders in an effortless manner. Clarke usually starts out wide on the left and cuts inside on his favoured right foot to impact the play but he can go the other way and whip in crosses as well.
But his decision making in this regard has been error-strewn. The amount of time he takes on the ball allows players to close in and he has been found guilty of slowing down counter attacks as he takes a fair amount of time to decide his next pass.
He gets fouled often due to this style of play but at just 18 years of age, he stands out from the rest all thanks to his composure in the final third, to go with his other advanced attributes. Spurs manager Pochettino, who has a history of developing budding prospects into world class players, would surely welcome the addition of someone like Clarke.
Clarke can be the understudy to the likes of Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli and will relish the opportunity to ply his trade at Spurs where he will be given ample opportunities to express himself knowing a consistent and hard-working attitude in training will be rewarded with first-team chances.
His price tag should not deter the London based club who have not spent a dime on players in the last two transfer windows.
