After yet another disappointing season, Manchester United, who have not even made it to a Champions League spot, will have to rebuild under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the hope of getting back into the Champions League and then gunning for the league.
The Red Devils are a shambles all around the pitch, but one area that they will have to strengthen with a quality player is in central midfield – a possible partner for the star midfielder, Paul Pogba.
The Manchester club have been urged to sign Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans by former Arsenal player Paul Merson, who believes that the 21-year-old is a quality player and would get into any top side in England.
Tielemans has been on loan at Leicester City since January from AS Monaco, and has impressed with his performances from midfield.
Should Solskjaer sign Youri Tielemans?
The Belgian midfielder is a supremely gifted midfielder, who can control the tempo of the match from the heart of the pitch with his strong passing skills and his long shots.
The 21-year-old, since joining the Foxes in January, has completed 85.3% of all his passes, assisting 4 times and scoring 3 goals in his 11 appearances for the club in the league.
Tielemans could be a good fit beside Paul Pogba in the United midfield and could possibly help the Frenchman blossom by allowing him to venture forward while also providing killers balls to the 2018 World Cup winner.
The on-loan midfielder has shown that he isn’t fazed by high-pressure situations and can adapt to the hectic nature of the Premier League with ease. The Belgian, despite being just 21, possesses the mentality of an experienced pro with his calm mentality and leadership skills on the pitch, as well as his ability to pick out the right pass.
Tielemans is the kind of player that Manchester United desperately need as they sorely lack leaders on and off the pitch. With Ander Herrera set to leave the club, and Nemanja Matic past his prime, Solskjaer needs a big upgrade in midfield, and Tielemans could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.
The Belgian was signed by AS Monaco for £25 million in 2017, but after some below-par performances, was deemed surplus to requirements.
