Liverpool‘s fantastic end to their 2018-19 season, where they pushed Manchester City to the final game of the season in the league, and reached the Champions League final, has been hailed by pundits and fans.
The Reds have been praised for their relentless spirit and the never-say-die attitude to keep going till the final whistle.
However, the Merseyside club have to win trophies with the gifted squad that they have built.
Former Liverpool player Stan Collymore recently gave his opinion on one player Liverpool should sign in the summer – Wolves’ midfield magician Ruben Neves.
“If you’re champions of Europe, that in itself is a huge catch,” said Collymore on the Portuguese midfielder, who has been an influential figure in the Wolves team that finished 7th in the league this season.
“Players from around Europe will have seen the atmosphere this year and the type of football. One who will be looking is Ruben Neves. He’s been on the radar of several clubs, a playmaker.
“He doesn’t score as many goals as he should but scores worldies.
“Neves is the kind of guy you’d get on the ball in the final third and he has the vision of David Silva,” he added.
The Portuguese international joined Wolves in 2017 for £15.8 million, and could be available in the summer for around £50 million.
Would Neves be a good fit for Klopp’s system?
The 22-year-old midfielder is the kind of player that can make any team play much better with his accurate passing and movement from midfield.
Neves is a playmaker who likes to switch play from one side of the pitch to the other, while also releasing attackers over the top.
Wolves have been deadly as a counter-attacking team, thanks mainly to Neves hitting long balls over the top of the opposition’s defence.
The Portuguese midfielder has the ability to dictate play from deep in midfield, and would be a good fit in the Liverpool team as they currently do not possess a player with the passing range of Neves.
The Wolves player is similar to former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso, and can control the tempo of the game with his passing, while also possessing the ability to hit long-range shots on goal.
With quick players like Salah and Mane in the team, Neves could be a key asset in midfield to play the ball quickly and catch out the opposition. At 22 years of age, he will only get better as time goes on, and could up his level when playing with superior quality players that are there in the Liverpool team.
