SWOT analysis of this Spanish ace targeted by Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa, who is on loan at Cardiff City.

According to Marca (via LeicesterMercury), Spurs, along with Leicester City, are among the clubs linked with a move for Camarasa, who has impressed the onlookers of the Premier League since joining Cardiff City on a season-long loan last summer.

Camarasa’s loan contract will expire at the end of the campaign, meaning the Lilywhites could attempt to sign the Spaniard on a permanent move in the upcoming summer transfer window. But what is he all about?

Here’s a SWOT analysis on this Spanish midfielder targeted by Tottenham.

Strengths

Camarasa is primarily an attack-minded midfielder, who is known for his versatility. The 24-year-old can play anywhere in the middle of the pitch, and even on the flanks if need be.

The Spaniard’s ability to dictate the tempo of the game with some clever movements and neat passing helps his team set the tone in their approach play. Indeed, Camarasa loves to distribute possession and bring others into the play, thus personifying his role as a team player.

However, the Spaniard is also adept in creating scoring opportunities for his team, having averaged an impressive tally of 1.6 key passes per game this season. He has already mustered three assists and has been involved in eight of Cardiff’s 30 goals in the league so far, which is indicative of his productivity in the final third.

Camarasa is also an athletic midfielder, who can cover a lot of ground and can play a crucial role in the pressing. Additionally, he has attempted nearly one shot from outside the box, meaning he loves to test the ‘keeper from long-range.

Weaknesses

While Camarasa might be an excellent creator on the pitch, his lack of defensive traits has often let him down throughout his career. His tackling is poor and he often lacks conviction in his defensive game, which certainly won’t hold him in good stead under Mauricio Pochettino.

Furthermore, the 24-year-old is not effective in the air either, largely due to a rather short figure of 1.83m while the Spaniard also lags behind on the physical aspect of the game.

Opportunities

Despite his fair share of flaws, Camarasa could actually turn out to be an excellent investment for Tottenham as they look to refresh their midfield next season.

The Real Betis midfielder will have the opportunity to make an impression in the starting lineup, thanks to the departure of Mousa Dembele earlier this year, making Tottenham more than a logical destination for the Spaniard.

Threat

There are not many downsides in Camarasa’s potential move to Tottenham other than the fact that he may take some time integrating to Pochettino’s efficient system at Spurs.
