Arsenal linked with a £35m transfer for Belgian superstar: A smart addition

Arsenal are set to compete with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund for Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Thorgan Hazard.

The 26-year old has been a key player for Dieter Hecking’s side so far this season, and has improved at a steady rate since leaving Chelsea in 2015.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with Hazard as they look to sign a replacement for Christian Pulisic in the summer, but according to the Sun, Arsenal will have to compete with Liverpool as well.

The fee being quoted is £35 million, so Arsenal might have to better that if they are to beat Dortmund and sign Hazard.

Thorgan Hazard – Why he would be a good addition to Arsenal

The Gunners have a crucial transfer window ahead as Unai Emery needs to be given decent funds to strengthen the side and get rid of some of the players who have not done well under the Spaniard.

Arsenal have been inconsistent this season, but to keep up with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Chelsea, and possibly close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City, they need to target players like Hazard.

Eden Hazard is the more prominent of the three Hazard brothers, but Thorgan Hazard has had a good couple of years or so which has made grabbed the attention of some of the top clubs in Europe.

Hazard has shown good versatility this season, and has done well in the left wing as well as the right wing role for the Foals this season.

While he a threat in a counter-attacking approach, Hazard can also pick a pass, having averaged 2.4 key passes a game in the Bundesliga on an average.

Hazard’s nine goals and nine assists in the league show that he can be a key contributor of goals and chances from the wider areas, something Arsenal have lacked this season, as they haven’t necessarily been able to stretch play.

The Gunners were pretty reliant on their full-backs under Arsene Wenger, and that is still the case under Emery as Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin have a combined ten assists between them this season.

Considering none of Arsenal’s wide attacking midfielders has been consistent, someone like Hazard would strengthen the team immediately and help the Gunners reduce the deficit on the teams above them next season.
