Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Arsenal: Lloris the hero of the day

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a hard-fought draw against Arsenal earlier on Saturday to stop their losing run in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites were far from their best in the first half, but picked up the pace in the second half to test the Gunners defence.

A Harry Kane penalty cancelled out an Aaron Ramsey goal, and Spurs have Hugo Lloris to thank for a late penalty save as well.

Hugo Lloris (9/10): Earned Spurs a point with an excellent save to deny Aubameyang, though one would argue that it was a fairly weak effort. Aside from that, the Frenchman made a fine save to push away Alex Iwobi’s effort in the first half.

Kieran Trippier (6/10): Struggled to make an impact on the far side, as he was often stopped in his track by Nacho Monreal. His crossing was also inaccurate and it was, overall, an ineffective performance from the England international.

Toby Alderweireld (7/10): Defended diligently for the most part of the game, although he was quite easily beaten by Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the counter-attack which led to Aubameyang’s late penalty.

Davinson Sanchez (4/10): It was a terrible defensive display from the Colombian international, who looked tense throughout the game. His failed clearances in the first half led to Arsenal’s opener while he also held Aubameyang inside the box to concede a late penalty, which to his good fortune, was stopped by Lloris.

Jan Vertonghen (8/10): An incredible block to deny Aubameyang scoring from an open-goal shortly after Lloris’ save. Got forward often in the second half, and finished the game with two shots as well.

Danny Rose (7.5/10): It was a mixed performance from Rose, who, at times, showed excellent tenacity to win the ball back and initiate turnovers. But, he was also sloppy with his passes, and rash with his tackles.

Victor Wanyama (6.5/10): Did a decent job considering the fact that it was his first start in the Premier League after November. The former Southampton midfielder offered the physical presence in midfield in the absence of Eric Dier. Failed to track Ramsey’s run for the opening goal, however.

Moussa Sissoko (8.5/10): An energetic performance from the Frenchman, who played a crucial role in restricting the likes of Granit Xhaka and Guendouzi from stretching the play.

Additionally, Sissoko made a host of driving runs into the final third and was at the end of arguably the biggest chance for Spurs, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Bernd Leno.

Christian Eriksen (6.5/10): Struggled to influence the game due to tight-marking from Arsenal defenders. As a result, the Danish international looked frustrated and his only source of creativity came from set-pieces, while he also scuffed a couple of efforts on goal.

Son Heung-Min (6.5/10): An ineffective attacking display from the South-Korean international, who failed to wriggle through the congested Arsenal backline. Worked hard, as ever.

Harry Kane (8/10): Following a somewhat of an average display in the first-half, Kane grew into the game after the restart, producing a tireless display in the number nine role. His hold-up play was excellent while he also delivered a couple of key passes in and around the penalty box.

Kane was offside in the set-piece play which led to the penalty, but credit should be given to the England international for calmly converting the spot kick.

SUBSTITUTES

Erik Lamela (6.5/10): Came on for Wanyama just one minute before the hour mark but the Argentine failed to make any notable impact in the final third.

Fernando Llorente (NA): Replaced the ineffective Son with just eleven minutes remaining on the clock, and didn’t do much. Committed too many fouls while trying to win the ball aerially.
