Arsenal Player Ratings vs Tottenham: Sokratis Impresses, Aubameyang Flops

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in the north London derby earlier today.

Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for the Gunners in the first half, but Harry Kane scored the equaliser after he converted the penalty for Spurs in the second half.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could have earned all three points for Arsenal in the second half but failed to convert his penalty late on in the game.

Arsenal will feel hard done by the draw as they had better chances, but in the end, a dodgy call cost them two points.

Arsenal player ratings vs Tottenham

Bernd Leno 8/10

The custodian certainly stepped up today and his double-save to deny Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko were absolutely fantastic in the first half. He cannot be blamed for Kane’s conversion from the penalty spot.

Shkodran Mustafi 6/10

Mustafi operated as the right-back and fared well until he made an unnecessary foul on Kane inside the box to concede the penalty. Kane was, however, offside, and the play should not have counted. Mustafi finished the game with four tackles, and two interceptions.

Sokratis 8/10

The centre-back was rock solid and kept Kane at bay with his imposing physicality. He was thoroughly dominant.

Laurent Koscielny 7/10

The Frenchman forged a commendable partnership with Sokratis at the heart of Arsenal’s backline, and dealt with the crosses in a shrewd manner.

Nacho Monreal 6/10

He knitted a fine balance between his defensive and offensive duties in the first half but struggled to gallop forward after the interval. His six tackles and four interceptions were the best among the 20 outfield players.

Matteo Guendouzi 6/10

The Frenchman was replaced at half time after a few misplaced passes in the first half. Had a pass accuracy of 73.3%.

Granit Xhaka 7/10

The Swiss international dictated the tempo of the game and he enjoyed the physical battles against his side’s bitter rivals.

Alex Iwobi 7/10

Iwobi created moments of brilliance at times, but he was inconsistent. A lot more was expected from him down the left. Finished the game with two key passes.

Aaron Ramsey 7/10

The Juventus-bound midfielder was the driving force of Unai Emery’s side and tested Spurs with his drive from his own half.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 7/10

Mkhitaryan kept Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen engaged as he added a lot of spark on the right. Finished the game with three dribbles, the joint highest in the Arsenal team.

Alexandre Lacazette 6/10

The striker remained anonymous for the major chunk of his time on the pitch. He had a good chance to score in the second half and double Arsenal’s lead, but couldn’t find the target.

Substitutions

Lucas Torreira 5/10

A high tackle on rose fetched him the red card in injury time but after coming on for Guendouzi in the second half, he injected a lot of resilience in midfield sector.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 4/10

The Gabonese never really made his presence felt after replacing Lacazette in the second half. The penalty miss made his afternoon worse.

Mesut Ozil 5/10

He couldn’t really impose himself on the pitch.
