Arsenal are contemplating a summer bid for Guingamp attacking midfielder Marcus Thuram, according to reports.
Thuram has a contract until 2020 which is bound to increase a few clubs’ interest come the summer, and his impressive form for the French side is only going to accelerate that.
According to French outlet Le10 Sport, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are keeping a close eye on Thuram, with the view of a potential summer transfer bid.
Marcus Thuram – Fact file
Thuram moved to Guingamp in the summer of 2017 and has made a good impact at the club.
Having graduated from the Sochaux academy, it didn’t take long for Thuram to impress in the senior team. Son of French football legend Lilian Thuram, Marcus has already managed 63 appearances for Guingamp.
So far this season, Thuram has made 24 appearances in Ligue 1, and has managed seven goals for the club.
Thuram is a left-sided midfielder, but his versatility means he can be deployed up top as well. However, playing him on the left helps get the best out of him.
Marcus Thuram would add a lot more spark to the Arsenal attack
Despite boasting the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gunners attack has blown hot and cold this season.
Though Unai Emery has done a commendable job, working with a shoe-string budget and competing with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City means the manager will have to oversee smart transfer dealings.
Thuram might have impressed only in the Ligue 1, but he has the potential to be a world beater and does fall into the category of Anthony Martial and Ousmane Dembele who had similar rises before moving to big clubs.
The 21-year old’s biggest strength is his dribbling ability and strength to hold off defenders, something that would hold him in good stead in the Premier League.
The Frenchman has averaged an incredible 3.5 dribbles per game on an average in the Ligue 1, and has also shown the keenness to test ‘keepers, having averaged two shots per game.
Considering Guingamp are in the relegation zone and are likely to go down, Arsenal might get Thuram for a cut-price fee. Acknowledging all the abilities he possesses, he’d be a smashing signing by the Gunners.
