Manchester United target Mauro Icardi’s situation at Inter Milan might benefit the Red Devils, it has been claimed.
The Argentine’s current contract, that runs till 2021, has a release clause of €110 million, but if the player signs a new deal, the clause might come down to €80 million, La Repubblica, via talkSPORT, have reported.
Icardi has been replaced by Samir Handanovic as the club captain, and hasn’t featured for Inter since the club’s clash against Parma in early February.
Things haven’t worked out for Romelu Lukaku this season, as the Belgian has struggled for consistency in front of goal, and has been replaced by Marcus Rashford.
Lukaku himself has been linked with an exit, to, unsurprisingly, Inter Milan, so you get an idea what might happen in the summer.

He is an absolute goal machine, and there aren’t two ways about it. Icardi has the knack to always find position himself perfectly in the penalty box, a trait that current interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had in his playing days.
Icardi has managed 15 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions; a record of a goal in every two games, in what has been an inconsistent season for Inter Milan.
The 26-year old’s overall stats for Inter are truly incredible. In 210 games for the Nerazzurri, Icardi has managed 122 goals; a goal-return that makes him one of the best strikers in Europe.
Icardi has all the abilities Lukaku possesses, and unlike the Belgian, the Inter forward is pretty clinical in front of goal. The Argentine averages at least one hey pass a game on an average, and that suggests he links up well with his teammates and can find a player or two in better areas of the pitch.
It remains to be seen how the story will develop in the summer, and another key aspect is whether or not Manchester United can make it to the top four.
Inter, like United, are vying for a top-four finish, and are three points clear of AS Roma who are currently fifth. United, meanwhile, are a point off the top four.
