Liverpool to face stiff competition for Spanish attacker: Should they go for him?

Liverpool could face stiff competition in the pursuit of Dinamo Zagreb winger Dani Olmo, and will have to pay €25m for the player, it has been claimed.

Barcelona, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Olmo, according to the Mirror, and Calciomercato claim that Dinamo Zagreb value him at €25 million.

The 20-year-old was previously valued at £9 million, but his price has gone up after his consistent displays for the club this season that has seen him become a key player for Zagreb.

Dani Olmo: An interesting long-term option for Liverpool

Liverpool boast one of the strongest attacks in all of Europe right now, but their lack of depth in the attacking department has forced Jurgen Klopp to scour the transfer market.

Indeed, the German mastermind lacks the services of reliable alternatives to Liverpool’s revered attacking trifecta of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Dani Olmo, in that regard, could come in handy as Liverpool look to bulk up their attacking options in the summer.

A former La Masia graduate, the Spaniard has been a revelation since leaving Barcelona for Zagreb in 2015, and has been involved in as many as 12 goals in all competitions this season, five of which came in the Europa League campaign.

Almo is predominantly an attacking midfielder, who is versatile enough to feature on the wider attacking positions, and can offer Klopp with an additional option in terms of his tactical choice in the final third.

As far as his gameplay is concerned, the 20-year-old is an agile attacker with raw pace that allows him to stretch teams. This tunes in perfectly with Liverpool’s style of play under Klopp.

Aside from his pace and agility, Olmo is known for his direct approach against defenders and the Spaniard always has an eye for that defence-threading through ball – making him somewhat of a complete package in the attacking midfield role.

That being said, the youngster has had very little experience in the highest level of football, despite featuring in nearly 90 matches for Dinamo Zagreb in all competitions, raising questions as to whether or not he will be able to integrate into the fast-paced Premier League, especially at such a young age.

But in the longer run, he would be a smart signing.
