Arsenal to solve problematic area with £25 million star: Just what Emery needs

Celtic star Kieran Tierney has been one of the most sought-after players in Europe, and is currently on Arsenal’s radar.

Arsenal are currently in the top four of the Premier League, and have a good chance of finishing in the Champions League places.

The Gunners have made good progress under Unai Emery, and according to the Scottish Sun, they are willing to shell out £25m to secure Tierney’s services.

Tierney grew in stature under the tutelage of the previous manager Brendan Rodgers, and has progressed well in the last couple of years.

Kieran Tierney: Player Profile

Tierney emerged through the youth ranks of Celtic and his impressive performances for the youth teams meant he quickly made the first team fold.

The 21-year old has made 163 appearances for Celtic despite his age, which goes to show that he has shown incredible maturity on the pitch.

Tierney’s impressive form at club level has also seen the Scottish national team take notice as he has mustered 12 appearances for Scotland.

Why Tierney would be an ideal signing for Arsenal

Although Tierney is predominantly a left-back, he has the versatility to be deployed as a central defender as well as a left wing-back.

Tierney is a typical modern-day full-back who has pace to burn and likes getting forward. The Scot has mustered five assists in just 16 Premiership games this season.

Arsenal have a good attacking full-back in Sead Kolasinac, but what makes Tierney a prospective target is that the 21-year old has good work-ethic and never shies away from his defensive responsibilities. That’s something Kolasinac hasn’t been able to do at Arsenal.

Nacho Monreal, on the other hand, has a contract that is set to expire at the end of the season, and an extension has not been agreed upon. In such a scenario, Tierney might be the ideal long-term solution for Arsenal.

So far in his spell at Celtic, Tierney has won three Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups as well, so he does have the winning mentality, even though it’s only in Scotland.

A move to a big Premier League club could appeal the Scottish international as well. He might face competition for a place in the starting lineup initially, but he has all the tools to excel and grow as a player at Arsenal.
