Kepa infuriates the fans and the manager: Chelsea player ratings vs Manchester City

Chelsea and Manchester City squared off in the EFL Cup, and the Sky Blues emerged victorious on penalties as the game ended 0-0 after extra time.

Here are the Chelsea player ratings from the game.

Kepa Arrizabalaga: 6

It was a strange night as for Kepa as he showed his guts and arrogance to reject Sarri’s orders to get off the pitch for Willy Caballero. Kepa saved Sane’s penalty, but should have done better to keep out Aguero’s spot-kick as well.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6

Looked lacklustre in the first half with his passing as well as backtracking. Improved in the second half.

Antonio Rudiger: 7

Made a few good tackles to keep the Manchester City players away from the Chelsea goal. Looked focused on his defensive duties.

David Luiz: 6.5

Looked a little bit on the backfoot in the second half after having a decent first half. Missed his spot kick.

Emerson Palmieri: 6

Tried his best to get the ball up the pitch but lacked the end product. Was more or less okay defensively.

Jorginho: 5

Regained his long lost form in the last quarter of the second half, but was off-colour in extra time. Missed the very first spot-kick to hand a big advantage to the Citizens.

N’Golo Kante: 7

Kept probing into the danger areas from time to time and dished out a diligent display on the big occasion.

Ross Barkley: 6

Had a quiet first half. Looked a little lively in the second as he went up the pitch with the ball, but could not deliver any telling passes.

Pedro: 6.5

His darting runs in the second half created some problems for the City defence after a cautious display in the first half.

Willian: 7

His brilliant free kick in the second half almost got the better of Ederson, but the custodian managed to parry it over the bar. Looked in a positive mood throughout the match and was eventually withdrawn for Higuain.

Eden Hazard: 7

His swift turns and nimble footwork made life difficult for the City defence throughout the match. Scored from the spot-kick as well but was not able to get his side over the line.

Substitutes

Callum Hudson-Odoi: 7

His classy footwork made him a menace for the opposition defence. Should have been brought on earlier.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek: 6

Decent outing for the Englishman as he tried to get the ball in the right areas with his accurate passing.

Gonzalo Higuain: NA

Played too little to warrant a rating.
