Everton have made an approach for PSG right-back Thomas Meunier, it has been reported.
Meunier recently spoke about his lack of playing time at PSG, and with his current contract at the club expiring at the end of next season, a move could be on the horizon.
According to a French news outlet, Le10 Sport, the Toffees are looking to make a move for the Belgian international in the summer.
Thomas Meunier: A smart addition Everton
Everton have improved under new coach Marco Silva, but the Merseyside giants still need to improve in a few areas.
The right-back position, in particular, has emerged as one of the problems of late, as Seamus Coleman hasn’t been at his consistent best.
Jonjoe Kenny has also failed to make himself a regular fixture under Silva, having featured in just over 700 minutes of league action so far this season.
Much like Coleman, Meunier is an attack-minded full-back, who likes to go forward at every given opportunity. The 27-year-old has excellent technical quality that allows him to rotate possession at a quick rate.
Meunier has attained an impressive pass completion rate of 84% this season, and also has an eye for that defence-threading through pass. Most importantly, he is an excellent crosser of the ball.
Indeed, the former Brugge starlet often becomes the main source of creativity when his team fails to breach the opposition, as his accurate crosses tend to find its intended target.
Everton have struggled to breach teams, so the attack-minded full-backs in Meunier and Lucas Digne can add another dimension to their attack next season as they can stretch play and add more numbers to the attack.
Meunier is also an aggressive full-back, who has averaged two tackles per game this season. The Belgian is known for his front-footed defending, as seen during the World Cup, and would add more urgency to the right-back position.
Consequently, Meunier is the complete package in the full-back slot and with the Belgian already fuming at his lack of playing time in Paris, it would be an excellent opportunity to get hold of him for a lower fee in the summer.
