Chelsea’s interest in Real Madrid star takes new turn, Barcelona want Manchester United forward, and more: Transfer rumours of the day

Today’s transfer roundup features Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea. While Arsenal weren’t able to spend money in the January transfer window, they might strengthen their squad in the summer.

There’s trouble brewing at Chelsea with a ban, and Manchester United might see one of their stars leave the club.

Here are the transfer updates from the day.

Chelsea’s interest in Gareth Bale becomes complicated with ban

Chelsea have made the headlines of late after receiving a transfer ban from Fifa, but the Blues are expected to appeal Fifa’s decision.

There were discrepancies in the club’s method of signing foreign under-23 players, but should Chelsea appeal, the ban is likely to be postponed, which would allow the club to sign players in the summer transfer window.

One of Chelsea’s transfer targets is Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid star has been linked with an exit, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure last summer meant the Welshman remained at the Bernabeu.

Now, Calciomercato have claimed that despite the rumours of a move to Chelsea, Bale wants to keep playing for Real Madrid and become an ‘icon’ for the club.

Arsenal midfielder will not be sold to PSG amid rumours of a transfer

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has rubbished reports of Matteo Guendouzi’s potential departure to PSG for a fee of £60 million.

The Gunners don’t have big money to spend, and need to get rid of some of their high wage earners to be able to sign players in the summer.

Guendouzi has had an impressive season so far since his move from Lorient, but has surprisingly been linked with a move to PSG.

Emery told a press conference that he doesn’t want to sell the player.

“I am surprised. I don’t want this.

“His development is like we want. He has a big ambition, big quality. Sometimes we need more quality with him and sometimes we need for him to be more stronger in midfield.”

Marcus Rashford off to Barcelona?

Manchester United are flying at the moment and with them, the likes of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford are making sure Jose Mourinho’s tag of The Special One loses whatever relevance it held with respect to his tenure at Old Trafford.

Terribly underused by Jose, both have turned a corner under Ole and today’s rumour further signifies the extent.

Well, Barcelona seem to have got round to realising they need someone who can take the goalscoring load off Luis Suarez who has somewhat stagnated at Nou Camp this season.

With teams becoming more prepared and confident by the day, Valverde knows he will need more attacking avenues than just Lionel Messi’s brilliance and Ousmane Dembele’s pace as two isolated entities.

Rashford has been excellent and has the ingredients to succeed in Spain. But we feel this transfer saga has just begun and any resolution to this end is currently not in sight, neither for the Barcelona chiefs not for us.

Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal?

Arsenal have huffed and puffed till this point in the season. They avoided an embarrassing early exit from the Europa League but still face a mighty fight to secure a Top 4 place this season.

Emery has been trusted with the huge responsibility of replacing Arsene Wenger but many feel the task at hand does not tally with the budget allocated to him.

All the latest Arsenal transfer news

A number of experimental transfers in defence and midfield haven’t plugged the innumerable loopholes in the squad and to add to that, the uncertainty regarding Mesut Ozil’s future and the confirmed and bemusing departure of Aaron Ramsey means there will be an obvious need for strengthening once again in the summer, especially in the creative department which has floundered on most occasions this season.

And to address just one of the issues in the right-wing slot, Arsenal have decided to pursue Nicolas Pepe who is also being eyed by La Liga giants Barcelona.

With 16 goals and 8 assists, while playing on the wing, he is certainly someone who can grab hold of the rudderless Arsenal ship and make sure Emery has a much better and settled second season at Emirates.
