Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, it has been claimed.
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal have sent scouts to watch the German sensation, who is regarded as one of the most talented young midfielders in European football.
However, the Gunners could face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, who are also keeping an eye on Havertz this season.
Kai Havertz: The ideal replacement for Mesut Ozil
Arsenal have often flattered to deceive this season after a brief purple patch under Unai Emery. The unbeaten run they had in the initial part of the season had papered over a number of cracks but in recent weeks, the frailties have been laid bare.
Added to that, the persistent omission of a certain German star has not added any value to the positive press that Emery would have hoped. Truth be told, it doesn’t seem like Mesut Ozil is in Emery’s plans, and considering the German’s hefty wages of £350,000 a week, the Gunners should get rid of him in the summer and sign a like for like player who can work harder.
Aaron Ramsey has agreed to join Juventus on a free transfer, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan has struggled with both form and injuries ever since joining from Manchester United at the start of last year.
Therefore, the addition of a new attacking midfielder looks imperative for the north London giants and Kai Havertz, in that regard, could be an ideal choice.
The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is arguably having his best season at the club, having been involved in 10 goals in just 21 league games. Indeed, he has played a key role as Leverkusen continue to push for the top four places in the Bundesliga table.
As far as his gameplay is concerned, Havertz is a proactive attacking midfielder, who likes to use his quality on the ball to ease his side’s transition from defence to attack.
The 19-year-old has shown excellent composure on the ball even under tight pressure and that allows him to not only link-up with teammates but also create opportunities in the final third.
Havertz is also an excellent passer of the ball, having attained a pass accuracy of 85% and his ability to rotate possession swiftly tunes in well with Arsenal’s high octane build-up under Emery.
Additionally, Havertz’s ability to skip past onrushing challenges effortlessly often allows him to evade the opposition press in midfield and that could be hugely beneficial in the fast-paced nature of the English game.
Thus, the Bayer Leverkusen star is a viable transfer target for Arsenal as he can not only add more fluidity in Arsenal’s attacking game but also provide more creativity in the final third and considering his age, he could be an excellent long-term investment for the Gunners.
