Newcastle United eyeing a transfer for Bundesliga winger: More creativity in attack

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Borussia Monchengladbach star Patrick Herrmann, it has been claimed by Transfermarketweb.

The winger has been linked with a move away from Borussia Park after failing to make the Gladbach lineup on a consistent basis this season and a move away is likely.

Newcastle, however, may face stiff competition from Crystal Palace and Southampton who are showing keen interest as well, while Bundesliga sides VfB Stuttgart and FC Augsburg are also more than willing to secure Herrmann’s services this month and keep him in Germany.

Patrick Herrmann would add more creativity to the Newcastle attack

Herrmann is pretty much a household name in German club football, having made his breakthrough around nine years ago.

The 27-year old has been a Gladbach player throughout his professional career but has failed to find regular game time under Dieter Hecking this season, featuring in just 382 minutes of league action.

Newcastle have lacked offensive resources this season and with their strikers failing to find the back of the net on a regular basis, they are currently one of the lowest scoring teams in the English top flight.

Although Salomon Rondon has fired in five goals in 14 matches, the Venezuelan international has lacked service and Herrmann, in that regard, could boost Newcastle’s attacking credentials with his pace and movements on the flanks.

Indeed, the German international is known for his electric pace, which he often uses to stretch opposition defences. Much like Borussia Dortmund superstar Marco Reus, Herrmann also likes to get in behind the defensive lines – a feature Newcastle have duly lacked this season.

The Saarbrucken-born attacker is also a bit of a creative force, having averaged over 1.5 key passes per 90 minutes for the most part of his career.

In addition, Herrmann often tends to cut inside and get into central areas of the pitch, thus allowing fullbacks to make overlapping runs from wider positions.

Despite all his abilities, it’s fair to mention that Herrmann is an injury prone player, who has suffered from a series of injuries in his professional career.

As a matter of fact, he is yet to play over 1,500 minutes of league football in any of his past four seasons in the Bundesliga. So, he may be a gamble from that perspective.
