De Gea gets 10/10: Manchester United players rated in win vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United made it 6 in 6 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thus making sure his name goes into the history books as the only United manager to win his first six games in charge.

It was a coherent and determined performance laced with moments of quality that eventually saw Ole answering his critics who cited the favourable run of fixtures as a reason for his blistering start. This was the away team’s first win this season against a fellow Top 6 contender and on account of today’s showing, won’t be the last.

The highlight fixture of the week lived up to it’s billing as both teams went all out to muster three points. The game had a nice ebb and flow and till Marcus Rashford finished brilliantly from Paul Pogba’s wonder pass, it was an even first 40 minutes.

Spurs were a different side altogether after the restart as they looked to get back in the game but came up against an inspired David de Gea in goal. This win puts Manchester United level on points with Arsenal and blows open the Top 4 race.

MANCHESTER UNITED PLAYER RATINGS

DAVID DE GEA- 10/10

The best goalkeeping display of this season as the Spaniard came to the party when he was needed the most making 11 saves in all.

ASHLEY YOUNG- 6/10

Was competent on his wing and kept Dele Alli and Son quiet for most parts. Delivered a few decent crosses in the final third.

VICTOR LINDELOF- 8/10

Another player who has turned a new leaf under Ole. An assured display especially in the second half in the face of a Spurs onslaught.

PHIL JONES- 7/10

Staked his claim for a permanent role in the team with an effective display. Had a nervy start to the game but recovered well.

LUKE SHAW- 7/10

Another one to start on a shaky note as Kieran Trippier managed a few dangerous crosses in but guarded his flank well as the match wore on.

ANDER HERRERA- 7/10

Was his usual industrious self. Broke up the attack and did not shy away from letting the opposition know of his presence.

NEMANJA MATIC- 6.5/10

His attempted passes forward weren’t the best today but he did well to make a crucial block to deny Harry Kane.

PAUL POGBA- 8.5/10

Another masterful display in midfield. His pass to release Rashford will surely end up as one of the assists of the season. It is now 4 goals and 4 assists for the Frenchman since Jose’s departure.

ANTHONY MARTIAL- 6/10

Did not make any major impact in attack. Had a decent chance early on but saw his shot saved by Lloris.

JESSE LINGARD- 6/10

Nothing spectacular from the Englishman today. Played mostly through the middle and did well to occupy the central defenders on more than one occasion as he opened up space for the likes of Rashford and Martial.

MARCUS RASHFORD- 8/10

Ensured Pogba’s pass got the deserved treatment as a fine finish from a tight angle proved to be the match-winner. Lukaku has a job on his hand to reclaim the starting spot.

SUBSTITUTES

ROMELU LUKAKU- 4/10

Looked off the pace with a number of heavy touches not particularly helping his team’s cause.

DIOGO DALOT- 5/10

Shored things up.
