Liverpool eyeing a swoop for Premier League defensive rock: Smart choice by Klopp

Liverpool are keeping a close eye on former academy player Conor Coady, it has been claimed by MailOnline.

The former Liverpool Under-23 defender has had a good season with newly-promoted side Wolves so far this season and has helped his team reach the top half of the table with his consistent performances.

Liverpool have had to deal with several injuries of late as Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez are unavailable, while Joel Matip isn’t match fit.

The Reds suffered another setback as Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out for four weeks.

Coady would add more steel to the defence and is a smart choice

The 25-year old has developed really well since his move from Huddersfield Town and is perhaps the first name on the Wolves teamsheet under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Pretty solid with his passing, Coady has played at the centre of the three-man backline for Wolves this season.

The former England U21 international has read the game well and has mustered 3.6 clearances per game.

The 25-year old is pretty physical when it comes to set-pieces as well which would suit the Reds considering their lack of height at times.

Coady might not be spectacular at what he does, but considering there is someone like Virgil van Dijk at the club, the 25-year old would be a good a good addition who can complement the Dutchman.

In a few weeks’ time, Liverpool may have Lovren, Gomez and Matip all fit and raring to go, but considering the Reds loaned out Nathaniel Clyne, we might see Gomez filling in at right-back on several occasions.

Liverpool can’t afford to take a gamble considering they are still in the Champions League and are just four points ahead of Manchester City, so they should look at adding another centre-back, and Coady is a very good option.

A return to his boyhood club would be something special as well, and with Klopp at the help, Coady can only improve.

Coady has a contract with Wolves until 2021 and they will play hardball in selling their captain, but considering Liverpool are in a good position to end their title wait, a move seems like a no-brainer as it’d only make the squad better.
