Liverpool are set to add more attacking reinforcements to their squad as the Reds are monitoring Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld’s situation at Club Brugge.
The talented Dutchman is currently recovering from an ankle injury he picked up in October, but his impressive performances in the early stages of the season mean he is a wanted man in the January transfer window.
According to the Metro, Liverpool might rival Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham for Danjuma’s signature.
Danjuma – An exciting player who would get the fans off their seats
When you picture the type of attackers Jurgen Klopp likes to work with, you get the image of a player who is quick, can pull off a trick or two, and is strong with the combination play up front.
Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri have all shown the aforementioned attributes this season.
Even while at Borussia Dortmund, Klopp worked with the likes of Marco Reus, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jakub Błaszczykowski, who were unstoppable on the counter and hard to defend against even when teams employed a low-block.
Danjuma is 21, and still has a long way to go before he can replicate his abilities in the more competitive and fast-paced Premier League where every small mistake is highlighted, but he has achieved it in his short stint in Belgium so far.
The Dutchman just moved to the Belgian league last summer, and still needs time to develop as he hasn’t had a bad patch yet.
Danjuma has a certain level of boldness that many remember Memphis Depay for. The latter couldn’t channel it the right way until his move to Lyon, but Danjuma seems like a player who has a certain level of aptitude for his age.
In 11 Belgian league games, Danjuma mustered four goals and three assists and helped his side top the table during the early parts of the season before his injury.
Brugge have dropped to second and are seven points behind Genk, and their patchy form coincided with Danjuma’s injury which says a something about how much of an impact he had.
The 21-year old often plays on the left side of midfield and is a typical modern-day inverted winger, like Mane. He can not only stretch defences with his pace, but is technically gifted to keep hold of the ball and participate in a more possession-based game.
Considering his injury layoff, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will take a risk as it would take Danjuma a while to get used to the pace of the league and return to full fitness.
If Danjuma does sign for the club, we might see the best of him next season as Klopp isn’t someone who integrates a new signing immediately into the starting line-up.
