Chelsea are keen to land AC Milan forward Gonzalo Higuain, it has been claimed by Sun. The potential deal might see Alvaro Morata moving the other way on loan.
Chelsea’s forwards haven’t been consistent enough and it seems the club are keen to land Higuain who is a proven goalscorer.
Sarri needs more reliable options up top instead of Morata
Chelsea signed Morata in the summer of 2017 from Real Madrid for a reported transfer fee of around £70m. However, the Spanish striker has flattered to deceive so far this season, and manager Maurizio Sarri is apparently frustrated owing to the lack of output by Morata.
The 26-year-old has failed to justify his hefty price tag and has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
Intriguingly, Sarri has preferred winger Eden Hazard as the focal point of his side’s attack in recent games, and it is evident that Sarri doesn’t want to rely much on Morata.
In 16 Premier League outings this season, Morata has managed to find the back of the net on merely 5 occasions, which is certainly a worrying sign for the London based outfit. Olivier Giroud has also not exactly set the stage on fire either.
Chelsea were held to a goalless draw in their last league game by a struggling Southampton side on Wednesday, which showed they need more quality up top.
The race for a place in the top-four in the Premier League is heating up, and Sarri needs more reliable options up top.
Higuain has a lot of experience under his belt, having plied his trade for Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, and AC Milan since his move to Europe. He is currently out on loan with AC Milan after Juventus shipped him to San Siro in the summer to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo.
He has been a regular goalscorer wherever he has played and is a clinical poacher up front. In 15 Serie A outings, Higuain has scored 6 goals and registered 1 assist. Sarri rates Higuain highly and is keen to work with him at Chelsea.
Undoubtedly, Higuain has all the ingredients to succeed and he would bring some freshness to the Chelsea attack.
