Arsenal have had a stop-start campaign under Unai Emery this season and if their recent mixed form is anything to go by, the Gunners are certainly in need of reinforcements before the closure of the winter transfer window.
However, Emery has already insisted that the club will only look to sign players on temporary deals and with less than a week left before the January transfer window slams shut, we will talk about three players the Premier League club should target in the coming days.
Denis Suarez
Arsenal’s pursuit of Denis Suarez appeared to have stalled after it was reported that Barcelona want him to sign a new deal with the club.
However, considering the nature of Arsenal’s current midfield department, which, aside from Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka, is lacking reliable options, the Gunners certainly need to show intent and push for the Barcelona star.
Both Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have also been linked with moves away from the Emirates and therefore, the addition of a creative midfielder could be imperative.
Suarez, in that regard, could be an ideal candidate, who can be utilized either as a number ten or in a midfield three alongside Xhaka and Torreira.
Malcom
Lack of options in the wide department has proved to be a huge weakness for Arsenal this season. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has struggled with both form and injuries and most of the creative workload has fallen on the young shoulders of Alex Iwobi.
And that’s where Malcom comes into the fray. The Brazilian is known for his explosive pace and exceptional dribbling skills that make him one of the most sought-after talents in Europe at the moment.
He plays as an inverted winger, who can cut inside and create chances for his team – making him a tailor-made fit for the Gunners.
Following his big money move to Barcelona last summer, Malcom has struggled to find regular game-time under Ernesto Valverde and the Gunners can use that to their advantage in the event of a possible move.
James Rodriguez
Another appealing option for the north London giants is Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.
However, the Colombian international has had a difficult time under new coach Niko Kovac, failing to get going. With the transfer window open, a loan move could well be the best option for him to get back on track.
The 27-year-old is a proven attacker, who is ideally suited to Emery’s tactical philosophy at Arsenal, thanks to his creativity and dynamic approach in the final third.
Earlier this month, Daily Mail reported that his services could cost around £3 million, which is barely a snip but the club will have to be decisive and a tad lucky if they are to land this deal.
