Wolves will host Premier League leaders Liverpool on Friday and will hope to trouble the only unbeaten side in the division so far.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have won their last three games on the trot and considering they have already impressed against Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea, Liverpool will have a tough test at the Molineux come Friday.
Wolves beat Bournemouth in their last game and will head into the tie with good confidence.
Wolves Team News
The big blow is attacker Diogo Jota will not be available for the clash after picking up an injury. The Portuguese attacker has been an influential player for Wolves and they will miss him against a Liverpool defence that is the meanest in the league.
Predicted Wolves Lineup
Defence
Rui Patricio should keep his goal and he is likely to be protected by a back three of Wily Boly, Conor Coady, and Ryan Bennett. Coady spent his entire youth career at Liverpool and he’ll have a point to prove against his former employers come Friday.
Wolves have scored just 19 goals in 17 games so far this season but their defence has been pretty solid, having conceded just 19 times.
Though Liverpool’s attackers are in good form, breaching that Wolves backline which has a combination of pace and strength will be easier said than done.
Midfield
Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves should start in the midfield pivot and the Portuguese duo are likely to be flanked by Jonny Castro and Matt Doherty.
Doherty’s movement has been pretty impressive this season but he will be up against an in-form Andy Robertson. It’ll a good battle to keep an eye out on.
Attack
Morgan Gibbs-White impressed against Bournemouth and should be given a start against Liverpool on Friday.
With Jota ruled out, Ivan Cavaleiro’s pace and ability on the ball could trouble Liverpool. He should start alongside Raul Jimenez.
Jimenez is the club’s leading goal scorer with five strikes and would want to add to his tally when the two sides square off.
