Coming on the back of a two-game winning run in all competitions, Manchester United failed to extend their good form after slumping to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Red Devils looked wobbly in defence and created very little going forward as goals from Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan helped the hosts register a comfortable victory.
Here are the Manchester United players rated in their embarrassing defeat to their cross-town rivals.
David de Gea (4/10): Yet another disappointing game for de Gea, whose awful clearance eased up the way for Manchester City to initiate their second of the game after which he was beaten at his near post by Sergio Aguero.
Ashley Young (6/10): Looked nervous in dealing with the threat of Raheem Sterling and later Leroy Sane, producing some unorthodox piece of defending.
Chris Smalling (5/10): Struggled against the marauding Aguero, who ran rings around the English international. Also made some rash tackles throughout the game, including an eleventh-minute tackle which could have resulted a penalty had it not been for Silva’s finish as the referee chose to play on.
Victor Lindelof (6/10): Disastrous performance from the Danish international, who was completely outclassed by Manchester City’s sheer quality in the attack.
Luke Shaw (5/10): Did very little to have any significant impact on proceedings, having been schooled by Riyad Mahrez on the flanks. He also provided very little service going forward, which, in turn, minimized United’s offensive potency.
Ander Herrera (5/10): A wasteful display from the Spaniard, who failed to provide the creative spark in the middle. He was also caught of position, at times and struggled against a dynamic City midfield, as a whole.
Marouane Fellaini (7/10): While Fellaini always comes in handy from set-piece opportunities, the Belgian’s overall game was lacking. However, he did appear relatively composed than most of the other United players, attaining a pass accuracy of 94% while winning 5 aerial duels.
Nemanja Matic (5/10): Looked terribly out of pace against the Manchester City midfield which was coupled with a lot of errant touches and lack of ball-playing qualities – all of which added to United’s misery in the middle.
Jesse Lingard (6/10): Failed to cause any trouble to the City backline, even when he could have used Mendy’s lack of defensive prowess in order to create decent opportunities. Rightfully hooked off for Romelu Lukaku in the second half.
Marcus Rashford (5.5/10): Not exactly an eye-catching display from the United superstar, who was isolated for the most part of the game, amassing only 29 touches – four more than City goalkeeper Ederson.
Anthony Martial (6/10): His well-taken penalty in the second half, overshadowed a miserable performance from the Frenchman, who struggled to breach the well-disciplined City backline.
Substitutes
Romelu Lukaku (7/10): Did well to cause some problems to the Manchester City defenders right after coming on, thanks to his robust runs. But, his awful touches certainly didn’t help him.
Juan Mata (NA): Should have been introduced much-earlier as he struggled to familiarize himself with the pace of the game.
Alexis Sanchez (NA): Little impact after coming on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Marcus Rashford.
