According to SportBild, Liverpool have joined the race to sign Serbian attacker Luka Jovic. The SL Benfica forward is currently on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt but has already scored nine goals in nine games this season.
Jovic moved to Eintracht last summer on a two-year loan deal from Benfica and following a slow start to his career in the Bundesliga, the Serbian is having a tremendous campaign so far this season.
It has been claimed that Liverpool could face competition from a host of top clubs across Europe. But, should the Reds pursue the exciting young attacker?
Luka Jovic: Player profile
Jovic is as an intelligent striker, who instead of relying on the physical aspects of the game, tries to deceive the opposition with his smart runs and clever movements.
The 20-year-old’s exquisite technical qualities have made him a sought-after talent in German football. He has an excellent first touch and his willingness to always look forward is remarkable, given the fact that only four players have averaged more attempts per game than the Serbian international.
Jovic has built a formidable attacking partnership with Sebastien Haller and Ante Rebic at Frankfurt this season, as the trio has scored 22 goals between them so far.
The Serbian’s tally of almost one key pass per game is also indicative of his ability to not just score goals but also to create chances for his team-mates in the final third.
Should Liverpool go all out for Jovic?
Liverpool seem like the most logical destination for Jovic if he is to make the next step in his career. Although the Reds boast a strong attack, they certainly lack depth with Xherdan Shaqiri being the only trusted alternative to the revered front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Therefore, Jovic’s addition to the side can offer Jurgen Klopp with an extra option at his disposal. But most importantly, the Serbian will also solve Liverpool’s lack of an out and out striker as Firmino has mostly operated as an attacking midfielder this season, which in turn, has lowered his productivity.
Jovic, in that regard, could be an ideal fit given his technical prowess coupled with his intelligence in the final third. However, he certainly needs to improve on his temperament if he is to find success in the fast-paced Premier League.
