Strongest Leicester City XI so far this season: Ghezzal misses out

Leicester City have had a mixed start to their Premier League campaign with four wins and four defeats in eight matches. The Foxes are comfortably sitting at a mid-table place with 12 points, just one behind eighth-placed Manchester United.

Here is the strongest possible Leicester City lineup based on the performances so far this season.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Defence

Although new signing Ricardo Pereira has featured as a right-sided midfielder in recent matches, he will be starting as the right-back ahead of Daniel Amartey. Pereira has been arguably the most effective signing for Leicester this campaign, having averaged the most number of tackles as well the third highest dribbles in the team.

Similarly, Ben Chilwell has also been quite effective, averaging almost four dribbles, 2.3 tackles as well as over one key pass per game. He takes his place at left-back.

In central defence, Harry Maguire has been the pillar of Leicester City backline, having made the most number of interceptions and clearances.

But, it will be Wes Morgan who will be partnering him in central defence as both the new signings in Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu are yet to make an impact since joining this side in the summer. Morgan has won 3.7 aerial duels per game – more than any other Leicester defender.

Kasper Schmeichel will be the man between the sticks for the Foxes.

Midfield

In midfield, Nampalys Mendy has produced average numbers in the league this season with just over two tackles, one interception, one blocked pass and almost one clearance per game. This is enough to grant him a place in midfield alongside the much more effective Wilfred Ndidi, however.

Ndidi has notched up 13 interceptions, 36 tackles and 27 aerials won – which puts him in top three in all of those respective statistical departments with his interception count being joint highest alongside Maguire.

Attack

Demarai Gray, currently injured, takes the right midfield position thanks to his superior dribbling qualities while Marc Albrighton starts on the left. New summer signing, James Maddison, has hit the ground running and starts as the attacking midfielder.

The former Norwich starlet has been quite impressive this season, creating 15 chances in just eight appearances – more than anyone else on the team. His vision and technique allow him to thrive in the final third, though he needs to work on his consistency.

And finally, the Leicester City attack will be led by none other than Jamie Vardy, who has plundered three goals in six matches.
