Wolverhampton Wanderers worked quite well to churn out a draw after conceding first at Old Trafford. They were disciplined, tenacious and determined for the result. Joao Moutinho scored the equalizer in the second half after Fred had opened his goal-scoring account for Manchester United earlier. Here are Wolves’ player ratings from the match.
Rui Patricio: 7/10
The Portuguese custodian was in fine form as he made some crucial saves from the long range. Fred’s free kick at the brink of halftime was saved brilliantly by him and Patricio distributed the ball decently too.
Willy Boly: 6/10
Boly cleared the ball twice and was strong while defending corners. He won two aerial duels and intercepted thrice to cap off an impressive defensive display.
Conar Coady: 6/10
Coady led the backline, neutralized Romelu Lukaku’s impact and hardly conceded easy fouls. He won two aerial duels, intercepted the ball thrice and registered three clearances.
Ryan Bennett: 7/10
Benett was very proactive, defensively aware and closed down spaces inside the box quite well. He made seven clearances, four interceptions and won four aerial duels.
Matt Doherty: 7/10
Doherty was tenacious while tracking back and he closed down spaces for Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez. He even won six aerial duels, provided one cross and took one testing shot on target.
Jonny: 7/10
Jonny was excellent from a defensive perspective and helped his team to hold on to a draw in the end. He tackled and intercepted twice, whilst making three interceptions in the process.
Ruben Neves: 7/10
The Portuguese midfielder was diligent with his duties at the centre of the park as he dictated the play whenever Wolves had the possession. Neves played five accurate long balls ahead and delivered two key passes. He intercepted thrice and had a notable overall impact on the game.
Joao Moutinho: 8/10
Moutinho always pressed the opponents through the centre and looked to capitalize on the open spaces around the penalty box. He scored through a wonderful effort from his left foot despite being in a somewhat awkward position. Moutinho delivered two key passes in addition to his equalizer too.
Diogo Jota: 5/10
Though Jota was energetic upfront, he lacked the cutting edge and often fluttered chances in that process. He was handled well by Victor Lindelof and even failed to capitalize on two counter-attacking scenarios.
Helder Costa: 6/10
Costa provided a tough time to United’s players as he was regularly active on the attacking front. He provided a couple of key passes, completed two dribbles and cleared the ball once.
Raul Jimenez: 8/10
Jimenez showed good movement and diligence to move around the attacking line and even drop deeper to help out his team defensively. He shifted wider and even crossed the ball once, whilst also providing two key passes in the match.
Substitutes:
Adama Traore: 6/10
He added pace but could have been much more mature to churn out a winning goal. Traore sort of hurried his shots from the long range.
Romain Saiss: 5/10
Saiss maintained the intensity of the game as he tackled, intercepted once and blocked the shots twice too.
Morgan Gibbs-White: N.A
Gibbs-White did not have enough time to carve an impact on the game.
