Tottenham Hotspur had a quiet summer transfer window and though the club are in a tough situation financially, the fans will expect a few new faces in the January transfer window.
Recent reports from TalkSPORT reveal that the North Londoners have joined the list of suitors for the signing of PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman is also being chased by Barcelona and Liverpool and could be available for a cut-price fee as his contract expires in the summer of 2019.
Rabiot has managed to break into the PSG senior team and has made a good number of first team appearances, but could be open to a move to the Premier League.
Why Rabiot would be a good addition to Tottenham
Still only 23 years of age, Rabiot has consistently improved season after season at PSG. He made his first-team debut at the tender age of 17 and since then, he has developed into one of the best central midfielders in France.
Rabiot predominantly plays in a central midfield role and his task is to link the midfield to the attack with his composed passing ability. Because of PSG’s attacking quality, the midfield is often under a lot of pressure to deliver.
PSG have often gone with a three-man midfield and Pastore tends to play alongside Verratti and another holding midfielder, who has happened to be Diarra or Marquinhos at times this season.
Rabiot’s passing is his strongest suit, but because of PSG’s system, his ability to read the game is equally good as he tends to stay back in midfield and stop opposing teams from breaking. Rabiot averaged 1.8 tackles a game and mustered a pass accuracy of 92.2% last season.
He might be a central midfielder but because of his ability on the ball, he can break forward occasionally. Last season, he averaged 1.2 dribbles a game in the French League. Tottenham have a few decent defensive midfielders in Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama and but neither of them are as good on the ball as Rabiot is.
The Frenchman last signed a contract in 2014 and Spurs should act quickly to sign him up for a cut-price fee. Considering they aren’t going to spend big, Pochettino will have to make do with minimal players out there who will come cheap but be good enough to challenge the current first team stars.
