Predicted 4-1-4-1 West Ham United Lineup vs Chelsea: Arnautovic Could Start

West Ham United will look to build on the momentum of picking up their first win last weekend when they host high-flying Chelsea at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be wary of Chelsea’s quality and most importantly, their fiery form in this new season. The Blues have won all five of their league matches so far and will look to return to the top of the pile after both Liverpool and Man City picked up wins earlier today.

West Ham United Team news

West Ham will be without the services of few of their star players in Winston Reid, Manuel Lanzini and Andy Carroll, all of whom have been sidelined with long-term injuries. Additionally, the Hammers will also be without new signing Jack Wilshere, who suffered a fresh injury setback that could keep him out of action for about six weeks.

The gaffer will be sweating on the fitness of Marko Arnautovic, who was forced off due to an injury in the win over Everton last week. He will be assessed ahead of the game along with Javier Hernandez, who is suffering from an illness.

Predicted West Ham United Lineup

Defence

Pellegrini is unlikely to make any changes to the side that won over Everton last week. This could mean that Lukasz Fabianski will retain his place in between the sticks. Pablo Zabaleta, Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and Arthur Masuaku are expected to form the flat back four.

Diop was excellent against Everton, attempting three tackles and winning two aerial duels, ultimately helping his side see out their two-goal lead. Thus, his presence could once again be crucial as West Ham look to contain the Blues this weekend.

Midfield

Declan Rice will retain his place at the base of West Ham’s 4-1-4-1. The young midfielder attempted more than tackles than anyone on the pitch against Everton but could be tested against a much more accomplished Chelsea attack.

Rice will be supported by the midfield duo of Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang. The two will be given the licence to operate in slightly advanced positions when compared to Rice. Both the midfielders registered an assist in the last game but might have to put in a lot more defensive work this time around.

Attack

All eyes will be on Andriy Yarmolenko, who was the star of the game against Everton, scoring a brace to help his side secure their first win of the campaign. The former Dortmund star will be deployed on the right flank with Felipe Anderson starting on the opposite flank.

Marko Arnautovic could lead the line if he is indeed fit enough to feature. Javier Hernandez or Felipe Anderson is likely to replace the Austrian, should he fail to return to full fitness on Sunday.
