As per one of the latest reports by Metro, Liverpool are optimistic about winning the race against their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur to sign Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella. The 21-year-old has a price tag of £35m slapped on his collar.
Jurgen Klopp’s side spent nearly £90m to beef up their midfield during the summer transfer window as they lured Fabinho and Naby Keita to the Anfield. However, they need more reinforcements due to their obligations to ply their trade in multiple competitions this season.
The Reds failed to get hold of Nabil Fekir in the summer and given that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a serious injury in the semi-final of the Champions League, they have been left a bit short of numbers in the midfield. Therefore, their apparent interest to get hold of Barella makes a lot of sense.
Capable of operating as a central midfielder as well as a central attacking midfielder, the Italian Under-21 international scored 6 goals and registered 1 assist in 34 Serie A appearances for Cagliari. Despite being young, he has shown immense abilities so far in his career and would be a decent signing for Klopp’s side.
