Scottish giants Celtic crashed out of the Champions League in the qualifying rounds and are in the Europa League. The Celts have carved their way into the group stages of UEFA’s second-tier competition after defeating FK Suduva of Lithuania last month.
Brendan Rodgers’ troops are chalked in Group B alongside Rosenborg, Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig. To reach the knock-out rounds of the Europa League, the Bhoys have to face the aforesaid opposition and there is no denying that they have the potential to give tough fights to Celtic.
Former Celtic defender Johan Mjallby, on being asked whether Celtic can feature in the final of the Europa League, said: “Why not? Definitely. This team has been absolutely fantastic for two years, winning two trebles. They have a lot of talent in the squad, good, good players.”
Mjallby was a part of Martin O’Neill’s squad that reached 2002 UEFA Cup final and such comments from him should boost Celtic in their endeavours. Despite a stuttering start to their new season, things are falling in place for Celtic and prior to the international break, they secured a 1-0 win over their arch-rivals Rangers in their Scottish Premiership fixture.
