Fulham showed plenty of fight against Watford in their last Premier League game to rescue a point and Slavisa Jokanovic will want his side to improve further when they take on Millwall in the EFL Cup. Though the Den has lost some of its intimidation factor in recent years, it’s still a tough place to go to.
Fulham could make a few changes and give some of their fringe players a chance. They have had a mixed start to the season, having won just once, but the performances haven’t been that bad.
Considering the number of players they signed, it was always hard to integrate everyone and hit the ground running. The league cup will provide Jokanovic with the opportunity to change things as staying in the league will be their primary target.
Predicted Fulham Lineup
Defence
In the first half against Watford, Fulham were in a defensive shamble. Alfie Mawson had a terrible outing and was lucky that Watford didn’t score more than one as he made quite a few defensive errors. Maxime Le Marchand and Calum Chambers could start at the heart of the defence against Millwall.
Le Marchand has more tackles than any other Fulham player in the Premier League and is also pretty good at bringing the ball out from the back.
Cyrus Christie could get a run out in the right-back position but we expect Ryan Sessegnon to keep his place at left-back. Sergio Rico too could get an appearance in goal.
Midfield
Like Mawson, Kevin McDonald had a pretty torrid game against Watford as Will Hughes often got the better of him and made quite a few darting runs into the Fulham half. He was subbed off at halftime but could get the chance to redeem himself this midweek.
Jean Michael Seri has been central to Fulham already with his ability to pick a pass and calmness in possession, but he could get a rest. Andre Anguissa and Stefan Johansen could complete the three-man midfield for Fulham.
Attack
Aboubakar Kamara is expected to lead the line as Aleksandar Mitrovic could get a breather following his incredible start to the season. The pressure will be on Kamara to deliver on the night.
Floyd Ayite and Andre Schürrle could start as the two wide players to provide Kamara with the service. Schürrle had a brilliant outing against Watford and should keep his place.
Ayite – Kamara – Schürrle
Anguissa- McDonald – Johansen
Sessegnon-Le Marchand-Chambers-Christie
Rico
