Manchester United will look to bounce back after consecutive defeats when they face Burnley later today.
Jose Mourinho has been criticised no end following United’s embarrassing 0-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur following the upset against Brighton. Although Burnley may look inferior on paper, the Clarets have already shown what they are capable last season and with no Europa league distractions anymore, will look to hit their strides.
Here are three United players who definitely need to step up today.
David de Gea
Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football, David de Gea has surprisingly seen a huge deterioration in his form. While his mishaps in the 2018 FIFA World Cup seemed like a minor blip in an otherwise glittering career, de Gea has already conceded seven goals this campaign. What is worrying is the fact that the usually terrific shot-stopper has conceded 12 goals in the 14 shots he has faced since the start of the World Cup.
Last season’s Golden Glove winner, having kept 18 clean sheets, de Gea is yet to manage a shutout so far this season. This has been one of the worrying signs for Mourinho and he’ll hope that the Spaniard can bounce back this weekend.
But, a solid display against the Clarets could be enough to rebuild his confidence and pave the way for another brilliant season between the sticks.
Romelu Lukaku
The big Belgian has failed to get going this season. And even though he has 1 goal in 3 matches, it should have been at least 4, with Lukaku missing 3 golden opportunities.
He has been jittery in front of goal but a physical battle against a side like Burnley should suit him and Jose will want the striker to get back to form and dominate proceedings from the start.
Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez has failed to get going since making a move from Arsenal earlier this year. He has been given ample opportunities ahead of Martial and Rashford but is yet to justify his constant selection.
The Chilean superstar has made only two appearances this season, one of which came as a substitute against Tottenham in the last match.
However, he is highly expected to start this crucial match for Man United and the Red Devils will be hoping he can carve out the opposing defence by using his pace and dynamism in the final third.
