Bundesliga is often regarded as the ideal league for a young player, thanks to its excellent productivity of footballing talent. Over the years, the German top flight has nurtured several top class players, who are plying their trade in England at the moment including the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Granit Xhaka amongst many others.
This summer, the likes of Max Meyer and Naby Keita also made the popular jump from Germany to England in order to prove themselves in arguably the most competitive league in the world. And we expect the next season to be no different. Thus, here are three young talents Premier League clubs should definitely target next summer.
Note: Players, who have already established themselves as international superstars (e.g Pulisic, Bailey, Pavard) have not been included in this list.
Josh Sargent – Werder Bremen
Yes, Christian Pulisic will not be the only American teenage sensation who will be plying his trade in the Bundesliga this season as Josh Sargent is now finally eligible to participate in the German top flight.
The 18-year-old initially joined Bremen earlier this year but was ineligible to play for the first team until now. He has already made his mark in the national team, scoring on his debut against Bolivia.
His record in the youth levels has also been astonishing, having scored five goals in just seven games in the Regionalliga Nord last campaign whilst netting four goals in five games for the USMNT Under-20s. And if he can replicate his performances in the German top flight, he will surely emerge as an appealing target for the Premier League giants next summer.
Kai Havertz – Bayer Leverkusen
Largely overshadowed due to the Pulisics, the Baileys and the Goretzkas of the Bundesliga, Kai Havertz is a talent who could soon make huge waves in European football this season.
Having turned only 19 this June, the Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid already has over 50 top-flight appearances under his belt and is going into this season as a regular first-team player for the factory giants. His creativity, dynamism and industry are sure to aid Die Werkself in midfield alongside a more robust Charles Aranguiz.
Havertz’s consistent performances in the German top flight has also earned him his first call-up to the German national team, which will take part in the UEFA Nations Cup. And it is only a matter of time before he showcases his talent in front of the world.
Jadon Sancho – Borussia Dortmund
It is England’s very own Jadon Sancho, who could appear as a top target for the majority of the English clubs next season. The former Manchester City prodigy has already made his mark in the Bundesliga since moving to Germany after falling out with the English champions.
He is now ready to play a key role for the Black and Yellows this season and make an even bigger impact, especially after the departure of Andre Schurrle and Andriy Yarmolenko.
Sancho has already been identified as a super sub among the fans, thanks to his incredible pace and tenacity, which becomes very useful in the latter parts of the game. And considering Dortmund’s infamous reputation of undergoing injury crisis almost every season, it’s only a matter of time before Sancho makes himself a regular feature in the Dortmund first team.
