Top 3 Players Of Matchweek 2: Chelsea And Bournemouth Stars Feature

The 2018-19 Premier League campaign is already into its third week and unsurprisingly, the points table is already taking shape. The clubs in the league have spent loads of money on star players in the summer, but not all of them have been impressive at the weekend. Arsenal and Manchester United fell to painful losses while Manchester City retained their ruthlessness with Liverpool also gathering some momentum after 2 consecutive wins.

There were a number of star performers from all over the country this weekend and here are three standout players, who helped their sides to all three points:

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

The Argentine international was in fine touch against Huddersfield Town and was all over the Terriers backline. Alongside Gabriel Jesus, who was also at the top of his game, Aguero scored a hat-trick, including a couple of superb goals and put the game past the visitors in a spell of just 10 minutes in the first half. He had 9 shots on goal all game and scored with three of them, also testing Ben Hamer on a number of occasions, and was the best player at the weekend in the English league.

Marcos Alonso (Chelsea)

After an impressive game against Huddersfield Town on Matchday-1, Alonso continued his good form and made life miserable for Arsenal this weekend. Constantly harassing Hector Bellerin and pushing Henrikh Mkhitaryan further and further back, the full-back put in a superb shift and took up dangerous positions time and again. With a goal and an assist to his name, he constantly pegged Arsenal back, creating a number of chances. With two tackles and five successful aerial duels to add to his goal, he stands as the best player for the Blues, in an important victory against their local rivals.

Steve Cook (Bournemouth)

The Cherries are off to a dream start in the league this season as they backed up their win over Cardiff City on the opening day, with yet another impressive win over West Ham this weekend. They came from a goal down to beat the Hammers and defender Steve Cook was crucial in this turnaround. He scored the winner, just six minutes after providing the assist for Callum Wilson’s equalizer and was also solid at the back, registering 11 clearances, four blocks and winning three aerial duels, in an all-round performance, standing as the match winner for his side, on their visit to the London Stadium.
