Following a rather satisfying campaign, Leicester City will be keen on improving their league position in the forthcoming season. Head coach Claude Puel has already addressed a few issues surrounding his squad, though the departure of Riyad Mahrez is a big blow for the Frenchman.
However, the Foxes have made a few smart signings as well, notably securing the services James Maddison, Jonny Evans and Ricardo Pereira. Liverpool keeper Danny Ward has been also brought in following the departure of Ben Hamer. Rachid Ghezzal has been brought in to replace Mahrez.
As we approach the final week before the transfer market slams shut, Leicester City are unlikely to sign more players. Hence, let us have look at the strongest XI Leicester City could line up in this new season.
Defence
Kasper Schmeichel will be the man between the sticks for the Foxes. The Danish international enjoyed a good World Cup campaign where his performance against Croatia, in particular, raised a lot of eyebrows.
Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans are likely to start at the heart of the defence. Maguire had a brilliant 2017-18 season and impressed in the World Cup with England. He’ll once again play a key role as Leicester look to stay solid at the back.
New signing Ricardo Pereira will occupy the right-back position while Ben Chillwell is expected to be deployed on the opposite flank when fully fit.
Midfield
Wilfred Ndidi has emerged as one of Premier League’s best midfielders after arriving from KRC Genk last year. He will partner Adrien Silva at the base of Puel’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
Ndidi’s tackling and tenacity in the middle will complement the more creative Adrien Silva, who will play a vital role in the half-spaces and transition. Veteran midfielder Vicente Iborra and the young Hamza Choudhury are the other options Puel will have at his disposal.
Attack
Leicester City’s attack will be led by the mercurial Jamie Vardy. But, it’s the service in behind which will undoubtedly excite the fans.
New signing Rachid Ghezzal will take on the mantle of replacing his compatriot Riyad Mahrez on the right wing while Marc Albrighton will feature on the opposite flank. The onus will be on playmaker James Maddison to provide the creative spark from the number 10 role.
The former Norwich starlet showed tremendous promise last season and it will be interesting to see how he manages to replicate his performances in the English top flight next season.
