As per one of the latest reports by Daily Star, Zinedine Zidane has emerged as the favourite with the bookies to replace Jose Mourinho as Manchester United’s manager. Zidane quit Real Madrid at the end of May after clinching his third consecutive Champions League title with the Spanish giants.
ESPN have reported that the Frenchman is eyeing for an entry into the Old Trafford. The Red Devils managed to churn three signings during the recently concluded summer transfer window, with Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant being lured to the Old Trafford.
Despite splashing the club’s cash left right and centre ever since his appointment as the manager in 2016, Mourinho was left frustrated at the end of the transfer window. Speaking to Sky Sports last month, he said: “Of course I am not happy.”
“I don’t have the majority of the players that are going to be in the squad on 9 August, when the [transfer] market closes and we can make the squad official for the season. If you look to the players Chelsea and Liverpool have in pre-season, especially these two teams but also Arsenal, I think if you compare, you see the difference of the situation.”
The Portuguese wanted more signings and due to the failure of the same, his relationship with the club has strained. Besides, his side’s pre-season games were disastrous and apparently, the camaraderie between him and his midfield star Paul Pogba is also on the decline.
