As per latest reports by Mirror, Chelsea are set to send out Danny Drinkwater on loan. Apparently, West Ham United are pushing for a Deadline Day deal to bag him, but their fellow Premier League side Everton are also keen on making the midfielder sign on the dotted line.
Drinkwater has been deemed surplus to the requirements of Chelsea. The 28-year-old was one of the prominent players during Leicester City’s title-winning 2015-16 season. However, he managed to muster merely 5 starts in the league last term after his £35m switch from the King Power Stadium in the summer transfer window of 2017.
With the arrival of Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid, Drinkwater has been pushed further behind in the pecking order. Therefore, a move away from the Stamford Bridge should prove to be beneficial for him. The Hammers have been one of the busiest sides in the summer transfer market and they do look like a formidable side on paper after their additions.
If Manuel Pellegrini manages to get hold of Drinkwater, the English international would be able to bring more flair and competition in his ranks. He has plenty of experience under his belt and will render Pellegrini an option of rotating the squad.
