Manchester United’s shot-stopper David De Gea is unarguably one of the best goalkeepers in the game at the moment. He has been prolific, not only for his club but also for the Spanish national side, and the Red Devils are keen to make him sign on a new contract.
In fact, Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the Spaniard is set to put his pen on a £200,000-a-week contract. The 27-year-old was heavily linked with Real Madrid in the recent past, but Thibaut Courtois’ move from Chelsea to Santiago Bernabeu ended speculations linking De Gea to the La Liga giants.
Mourinho, on being asked about his goalkeeper’s contractual situation, said: “He is a Manchester player and will as soon as possible sign a new contract. Would I swap De Gea for any other keeper in the world? No. He likes it here, we love him. We want him to stay, so when a player is not on the market his value is zero.”
De Gea garnered 18 clean sheets in the Premier League last term and won the ‘Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award’ for the fourth time in the last five seasons. He is an instrumental figure at the red half of Manchester and no wonder why Mourinho has no intentions of letting him leave.
